WHERE THE SILENCE WAITS
written by Matty Shreds
Record my final breath
And let the nothingness that follows explain,
How emptiness felt and why I withered away.
A dialect only you could understand.
Floating in the ether, between breath and goodbye.
Like strings guiding an orchestra,
The beauty breaks where the silence waits.
Where the ocean ends and the sky begins,
Grief anchors itself in the shape of a tree.
Roots warped by time beneath the surface,
Feeding on the years that won’t come back.
Harm, disguised as love;
Pain—the only thing that ever stayed.
It buried the light, but kept the warmth.
Pulling you close, only to devour the rest.
I kept my word, and it was the keeping that killed me.
A promise to stay away, just to watch myself burn.
Your smile remains, untouched by time.
Tell me this isn’t all it was meant to be…
I abandoned love, only to die alone.
To be wanted, then named anathema,
Is to rot inside someone else’s skin.
Still reaching, still in flames,
Long after the fire was declared unworthy.
Portrayed as evil, just to shelter the truth within.
Her eyes were enough to resurrect the life I feared to live.
The purest form of love itself;
I’ll rot in hell before I ruin someone else.
With quiet agony, you wished I could see myself the way you did.
Not knowing, the only time I ever saw myself was in your eyes.
If you looked through mine, even once..
The darkness would haunt you until the end of your life.
Redemption was never written in my blood.
Only the pain of what was never held.
I became the grave of what was never buried.
Burning still, for something long since gone.
What’s left of me
Rests in the silence you never broke.
