What Light Abandoned

What Light Abandoned

written by Matty Shreds

From the depths of hell to the surface of earth,
What once was rhetoric is now marrow of curse.
Forever binding; permanently misled.
A society of filth, packaged as holy.

Holy: a poor man’s quarry.
The deceptive plunge into an imaginary moat.
Seeking a scapegoat, pinned as the pinnacle of threat,
Resting on the border of lifeless and regret.

Banish the witches; praise the clerics,
While darkness coils in creases of sanctum.
Praise the friend, though venom concealed,
Spitting upon the memory of true love.

While a dory floats amid the calming sea,
Reflection shines on the outcast in a silver hat.
A crowd of smiles, though one wears fear,
The lone who senses the storm.

Buying time with stolen faith,
Layered with presence and a glorified face.
Broadcast the demise, yet bury the cause,
Prolific in meaning, yet scum is the crown.

The serpent grips its lonely prey,
Feasting on silence where bones remain.
Chased from a broken chalice,
Darkness inherits what light abandoned.
